Plastic

A material invented to last forever and should not be used on single-use items like straws.  Plastic straws rarely make it to recycling facilities due to cost and complexities of sorting materials correctly.  If we don’t replace plastic with paper straws, our oceans are tracking to have more plastic than fish by the year 2050.

Compostable & PLA

PLA materials are often labeled “compostable” or “plant based”.  In order to break them down, these straws require industrial processing facilities that have high temperatures of 150˚F.  Even if PLA straws find their way to an industrial recycling facility, it may take up to 6 months before these products start to degrade.  In the end, they are simply single-use plastic straws made from renewable biomass ingredients.
